Inaugural Function of RK Durham Seniors Social Center

The inaugural function of the RK Durham Seniors Social Center (RK DSSC) marked a momentous occasion in the organization’s history, celebrating its commitment to serving the seniors of the community. The event, which took place at Chestnut Community center, Pickering on October 08 at 11.00 a.m. attended by around 65 individuals that featured various dignitaries, community leaders, and enthusiastic seniors.
The event commenced with a heartfelt recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Reshma Khan, the Director of RK DSSC. This spiritual opening set a solemn and inclusive tone for the gathering.
Samina Yasmeen, skillfully provided a translation of the Quranic verses into English. Her eloquent interpretation allowed all attendees to understand and appreciate the significance of the recitation. She also served as the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the event, guiding the proceedings smoothly and maintaining an engaging atmosphere throughout.
Maurice Brenner, Regional Counselor of Pickering, was the special guest who had the honor of cutting the ribbon to officially inaugurate the RK Durham Seniors Social Center. This symbolic act represented the opening of a new chapter in the organization’s journey.
The cake-cutting was done by the Chief Guest of the occasion, Jennifer O’Connell, Member of Parliament for Pickering and Uxbridge. This sweet moment symbolized the celebration of a new beginning for the seniors of the community.
Reshma Khan, the Director of RK DSSC, welcomed the esteemed guests and delivered her presidential address. She shared the organization’s vision, the range of services and programs it aims to offer, and emphasized the importance of the center in the lives of seniors in the community.
Both Maurice Brenner and Jennifer O’Connell addressed the gathering of seniors, expressing their deep appreciation for the welfare programs initiated by RK DSSC. They assured their continued support for the organization’s mission and commitment to senior citizens in the community.
Jennifer O’Connell presented a memento of appreciation to Reshma Khan, Director of RK DSSC for her dedicated services to the senior community, recognizing the organization’s vital role in enhancing the well-being of seniors.
The guests of honor had the privilege of awarding certificates to deserving participants. Ms. Sobia Fareed and Ms. Aafia Talath were recognized with certificates of appreciation for their active participation and contributions to the center’s programs.
The inaugural function concluded with a heartfelt prayer led by Ghousia Khan, the mother of Reshma Khan, whose unwavering support played a pivotal role in RK DSSC’s inception a year ago. The prayer emphasized the importance of unity, blessings, and the well-being of seniors.
Following the formal program, attendees enjoyed a delightful spread of homemade delicacies. The variety of dishes offered an opportunity for socialization and further strengthened the sense of community.
